Massage Therapy is the manipulation, through hands on work, of the soft tissues which are: Muscles, Connective tissue, Tendons, Ligaments, and Joints. It can be performed by only a Registered Massage Therapist and the term “Massage Therapy” is a restricted title.

 

The practice of massage therapy is regulated under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and is therefore a Regulated Health Profession.  Only individuals who have completed the requisite training and have met the strict competency requirements of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) can call themselves a “Massage Therapist” or a “Registered Massage Therapist”.

A trigger point is a tiny area of irritation in a stressed muscle. Trigger points refer pain, weakness, or numbness to either surrounding or distant areas of muscle tissue. The key clue pointing to a trigger point is that applying pressure to a specific point causes you to feel pain or another sensation someplace else. Trigger points result from trauma, exposure to cold or infection, overuse, misalignment, or chronically contracted muscles.

Our massage therapist only uses hypo-allergenic massage oils or lotion However, if you have sensitivity to certain types of oils or lotions please bring it to the massage therapist’s attention as most practitioners have an assortment of oils and lotions on hand.

No, All our Registered Therapists are trained to assess and treat your condition without a doctor’s prescription or referral. However, Some insurance companies do require a prescription from your doctor for the reimbursement. Please check with your provider.

Yes, initial assessment is for our therapist to understand your condition to provide you with the right treatment. Initial physiotherapy/chiropractic session at Therapy One is a combination of assessment and treatment for approximately 45 minutes. If you were assessed by another health care practitioner recently regarding your current condition, please bring the results when you come to facilitate our assessment process at the initial visit.

This is one of the most commonly asked questions. Massage Therapist, Physiotherapist and Chiropractors are trained to asses and treat any musculoskeletal conditions to various degrees. You could book your appointment with any of our therapists and we will direct you to the right treatment plan when you come in for the first visit.
